How can I get ringtones from my mp3's on with Verizon?

All my friends have other services and their phones also have an mp3 player (mine does as well). They can all use their mp3 songs as ringtones and ringback tones, and they can also text a ringtone to someone else. They have tried sending them to me, and I can't save as 'my ringtones'. I also have tried recording a song with my voice recorder, which saves into 'my sounds' , my verizon phone will only let me use the noises under 'my sounds' that came on the phone as ringtones. Is there a way to get ringtones without buying them and using my mp3's?? Or does Verizon always find a way to make sure nothing is for free?? Help!

lol I ran into the same problem. You need to convert the mp3 to a 30 second clip, maybe lower the bitrate. Then email it as attachment to "your-phone-number@vzwpix.com" and save it as a ringtone. If it doesn't work, rename the file to have a ".mid" extension instead of ".mp3" and re-email it. I saw this at www.technipages.com/article537.html

Or, you can just go to go http://free.cell-phone-tones.net and get 5 free ringones sent directly to your phone without al lthe hassle. check it.
