Ringtones only heard by ppl under 25?

Sony Pictures plans to promote its upcoming supernatural thriller The Messengers using digital ringtones only young consumers can hear, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The marketing strategy was inspired by the film's story about a teenage girl (played by Kristen Stewart) whose parents are incredulous when she tells them she's been hearing and seeing ghosts in their new home.





Is that even possible?





The exclusive ringtone, which can be purchased for $2.49 on the film's official Web site, was created specifically for the film, and is a combination of several ultrasonic frequencies tied together to mimic a musical sound resembling a high-pitched chord. The theory behind the original creation of such ringtones is that as people get older, their hearing normally worsens. Ultrasonic ringtones are thought to be inaudible to people over the age of 25.

It's not strictly 25, bt as you get older and your hearing degrades you are less able to hear it.


It is basically just a constant tone played at a very high frequency.





They have trialed using it in some shops and public areas in the UK that have suffered problems with youths loitering and causing trouble. Apparently it has proved effective.
Reply:Possible, yes. But that does not mean that everyone over 25 cannot hear it and everyone under 25 can.

Reply:I hate that ringtone that only children are suppose to hear. I can't hear it and I'm 24 my husband can hear it (also 24). My friend (22) can only just hear it she seems to think she can't hear it as well as she could at the start of the year.
Reply:yes it is theres one that exists thats a really high pitched sound.i know a cuple people who have it.it really works!its not always at the age of 25 but around there.my parents cant hear it watsover
Reply:There's this one called the "mosquito" and it's the most annoying thing i've ever heard. but it's genius because younger people can hear higher pitches, and the older folks can't. It's clever.
Reply:Yes it works but it's not 25 it depends by the persons hearing. I got it and my 30 yr old cousin could hear it but my 28 year old cousin couldn't.
